Adult learners these days want something that they can physically interact with. They want the ability to apply their learning directly to their job or skill. They want to learn on-demand. They want instant access to information when they need it at their fingertips.

Traditional training methods don't allow for that. They just don't.

What VR allows for is the ability for adult learners to interact. The answers aren't in front of them. They get the opportunity to use technology, explore environments, and develop their critical skill thinking.

With VR, it's not just an instructor or an eLearning course pushing information. VR allows the adult learner to get immersed in the content. They're able to develop their behavior skills of adventure and exploration and the ability to think creatively, where the answer may not be apparent to them immediately.

The learner has to use all of their senses to be able to gather information, understand their situational awareness, and what could happen. VR allows them to make choices and will enable them to fail so that they can practice again to get it right.

And since it's not multiple-choice, there's not a correct answer. The learner has to go figure out what the next step is, and that's the power of this technology.

VR comes into play because it engages people. You can step into their shoes, and you can create an environment where they can't just check the box. The training can't be "one and done." Learners have to engage at least in that part of the course, and they have the potential for more effective learning and higher retention.

As if that's not enough, VR makes training fun again.

It's fun. And when we talk about retention and about creating content, that is memorable. You see, it's the emotion behind the situations, scenarios, and simulations, and that's where muscle memory begins to develop. The power of VR is to create what it's like in real life and then giving that to adult learners in a format in which they can engage.
